Former New York City chef Mario Batali will join the 2018 Senate race in Georgia, the Washington Post reported Friday.
Batali, a former mayor of New York and former chef, is running as an independent against Democrat Jon Ossoff.
The former New York chef, who is currently a columnist for The Post, was one of the first African Americans to be elected to the US Senate in 2010.
He has said he hopes to make history as the first Hispanic American to serve in the US House of Representatives.
“I’m not just going to be a guy that eats burgers and eats steak, but I’m also a guy who understands how to bring people together and create a new kind of American Dream,” Batali said.
He is also a former member of the US Olympic team, serving as an ambassador for the team.
